Look up the public registration record for a domain or IP — registrar, creation and expiry dates, name servers and status. Queries go directly to the authoritative WHOIS server (IANA → registry → registrar).

About WHOIS

WHOIS is the public directory of domain and IP-address registrations. Every registered domain has a WHOIS record listing its registrar, important dates, name servers and status codes. For IP addresses, WHOIS shows which regional internet registry (ARIN, RIPE, APNIC, etc.) and organization the block is allocated to.

Common uses

  • Check when a domain was registered and when it expires.
  • Find the registrar to transfer or recover a domain.
  • Identify the owner or hosting provider behind an IP address.
  • Confirm name servers and domain status (e.g. clientTransferProhibited).

Note: many domains use registrar privacy/redaction, so personal contact details are often hidden under GDPR.
